Search Engine What?
Two things, if you please:
1) Mass Control Bye Bye
2) Search Engines are Good, but Goofy.
Mass Control 2.0 "Bye Bye"
This launch was so good, I've simply GOT to reverse engineer it (like I did with Frank's 2nd video) and create some checklists for people to evaluate their own marketing processes because…
Frank set a new standard, and I think and it needs to be memorialized…
..and then copied.
Mr. Kern, if you're reading – congrats pal, I learned a LOT and the system is ninja.
My "Gonzo" bonuses for MC 2.0 are here, and the last handful of Mass Control 2.0 systems are available here.
I wonder what the High School Guidance Counselor that said "Frank, think hard about a public sanitation career" is thinking now.
For that matter, what would your High School Guidance Counselor say to you – if they met you today?
Heh.
Search Engines are Good, but Goofy.
Have you ever been DREADING being on receiving end of a phone call or email or letter?
And then… you get it, and it turns out to be… Okay.
And every once in a while, the news you get it is of the "BOOYA!" variety.
That's what's about to happen to you.
The State of the Search Engines
I've gathered up Leslie Rohde, Dan Thies, and Jerry West to create a
"State of the Search Engines" series of audio podcasts.
So, shut off CNN, or FOX News, or whoever is filling your day with fear and poison, because:
We've got "BOOYA!" news about Search Engine Optimization.
BTW, these podcasts will be free.
We're just finishing up the last of the topics that we'll cover – but before we go into audio production, I wanted to ask you if you had any questions of your own, or suggestions for hot SEO topics.
If you do, just help yourself to the comment box at the bottom of this very page.
I'll post the release dates shortly.
Andy
P.S. Never one to mince words… I laughed pretty hard when I got this email:
"Dear Recession,
Suck it.
Sincerely,
Frank Kern – Mass Control 2.0"
P.P.S. This is why I don't listen to the news anymore:
"Wall Street indices predicted nine out of the last five recessions!"
(BTW, the dude that said that won a Nobel Prize)

How much reference should we be giving on the validator? I input code on and it fell one page on SERPS. That seems rather strange.
Suggestions?
some techniques or tools to fortify post?
Nice post! I think Google is no. 1 search engine and cheers for those people who created google..
I would definitely like to see some information on automated tools that would make it easier (faster) to implement article marketing in order to build backlinks for your site? All of this stuff can definitely be overwhelming in the beginning. I feel right now that my hardest thing is determining how to choose effective keywords.
that's great article. Please let me know when you release the podcast. I'm just starting with IM and want to get up to speed as soon as possible.
Hi guys,
I would be interested in stuff that could be specific/different for Europe (I'm in Germany).
Am fairly new to this and sometimes feel that things might be a little different here…
Do you think google will stop giving page rank from incoming links? Ive read before that do to all the link farms and bad reciprocal linking, google will make that less of a factor in your page rank.. Does anyone know of a good place to get quality links?
Hey,
What would you say were the easiest ways to get links from authority sites in your niche? How would you approach them when offering to write content for them?
Thanks,
Alex
A great post.

Free Website Traffic
I think that social interaction will become more important to get a lot of traffic from now on. Not only through sites like DIGG or Stumbleupon but from relevant social communities where the recommendations from members will weigh heavy.
And hopefully the semantic web isn't too far away…
what do you think about automated link exchange program? Do you think they can help in SEO by generating backlinks?
What about how SEO effects Google adwords and best strategies
Like one of the other commentors, I too am interested in the category listing and how a site should be structured to be considered by Google for this. Given the heat map studies done on your double indented listing, I image the click bonus for these is massive.
would like to hear the best strategies for permanent, long-term rankings and avoid getting slapped. It seems like getting a lot of backlinks from free sites and getting a bunch of quick links from web 2.0 sites is a good way to eventually get slapped.
how about part of the podcast covering sites, resources that are good for Intro to SEO – I feel like I'm so behind… so where does one start out with the basics?
What would be your top 5 off page optimisation strategies (in terms of time vs. reward in SE rankings), and your top 5 on-page SEO strategies. A top ten list of 'HOT' killer SEO strategies if you like, but with a case study showing real results.
A difficult one but as you know case studies (partcularly for ecommerce), can be duplicated and measured extremely well.
Keep up the excellent work.

Hi all,
1 – Question: apparently using PPC/Organic Search to direct traffic to CPA offers is the next big thing. How can we use Organic Search to do this? The only way that I can think of is to create SEO'd mini-sites with optin box that redirects to offers? Thoughts please?
2 – Comment: I have to remind everyone that Google is about relevancy. Of course Google are going to start paying less attention to Web 2.0 stuff (articles blogs and social bookmarking), because they are less and less relevant. You can now get 100 bookmarks for $20….. End rant. I saw a website that continually ranks #1 for the word "seo", a VERY competitive word. I checked out their backlinks and they only have a handful….I COULDNT BELIEVE IT. How can a site rank #1 for a generic keyword with only a handful of backlinks. I then ran the "site:" command and their website has over 3,500 pages of pure content…..I think that says alot. Im guessing that we'll see a move away from Web 2.0 stuff towards content once again…..just my opinion.

Hey Andy,
How about some advice on the best way to use Wordtracker for SEO – it seems there are several ways to use this tool. How do you use it?
Thanks! You guys are the best!
Hi Andy,
I am sure you have covered this but I have really hard time getting 'double listing' – I can get to page 1 but getting double lisiting seems random and at googles whim – can you break that down for me.
Also, realated is the 'category listing' – like you get under 'wedding favor'
I have just one quick question. How do Search and Business directories like business.com, locald.com or switchboard.com get indexed so well with little if any obvious on page relevant content? Is it internal and off page linking? How about a little info about what expect to see where internal linking is concerned.
My question is a simple one.
How can you find out where a site is listed in the SERP's for a chosen keyword phrase without going thru page after page after page trying to locate it. There has to be a easy way to do this
I have just started to SEO my site, it would be great to see it move up the SERP's if there was an easy way to check in on it every day.
Cheers
The best tool I have found is "Rank Checker". It allows you to check the serps for your keywords on google, msn, yahoo nad localized versions of google. I will also give you the position for each keyword and what page on your site is ranking for that keyword. Rank Checker works with Firefox as an extension or plugin.
Question:
Is using "mod rewrite" to change my urls going to take away any of my SE rankings? I was told by a php programmer that it would not and eventually the SE's would reindex my pages with the new urls, with my rankings intact. Is this true? I am getting a CMS so I need to make this change. At least this is what I was told. Thanks.
Why do landing pages we have been told to create in a certain way, work, yet on a website that is offering services, for example, we are told to optimize for the search engines, adding sitemaps, keword optimization etc. I'm confused.
I think that specifics are best to learn from. Can you give specific examples for a good title tag, description, keywords and page text content. It can be from any site on the web. I just think specific examples are better than generic you need to create compelling copy.
Thanks,
RJ
Can you guys cover the LSI topic in detail? I would like to know of any tools or strategies for placing synonyms on the pages with your content. From what I understand Google and the other engines reward pages that help them decipher what the content is about. So with that said,
I would like to know:
1) What tools you recommend (if any) for finding these synonyms
2) What are some best practices when adding these synonyms to your content
Obviously you can you a thesaurus, but I've heard the term "Search Engine Proven Synonyms(SEPS)" which are different than the synonyms you would find in a thesaurus.
For example, if you look up golf in a thesaurus you probably won't find Tiger woods, but if you use the ~ function followed by the keyword golf is synonymous with Tiger woods.
Anyhow you guys know what I'm talking about.
Thanks
We all know that Google is constantly improving / changing their engine to improve results and fend off spammers.
Is Yahoo and MSN also pouring major resources into the search arena?
I would assume that they have teams "managing" their engines but I would think that there is more opportunity for marketers to take advantage of their engines even though the google gets more traffic because they are not really that focused on search nor do they have the cashflow to support the aggressive changes that Google makes.
I'm building lots of web 20 properties linking to my optin page – is this the best strategy to sell or should I be using techniques to promote my sales page too?
Hi guys, this is awesome!!! Free Line moved Again!
Anyways, now onto some questions:
- – - Link Building – - – - – - – -
What would be the recommended speed of link building for new sites and what for 3-4 year old ones with Pr5/5000 backlinks already in their bag.
- – - Advanced SEO – - – - – - – -
Say, if one decides to go into markets like, travel, hotels or same old good wedding favors, whats the primary approach should be taken to this and how long term we should prepare ourselves for this? Anyways, key factor I guess here is that majority sites have very strong backlink portfolio that even long tail pages have PR of 3-4, making it complicated to compete with them. What should be the tactics used?
- – - International SEO – - – - – - – -
The best ways to optimize for markets of Canada, Australia, UK (considering one domain for each country)?
The best ways to optimize for non-English markets, e.g. Germany, Spain, France?
If I have a .com site in French – how do I optimize it to rank well in Canada and France as they both use French?
- – - – - – -
Thanks for now!
Hi
I am pretty tired of search engines and people who try to manipulate them to rank high to sell crappy products.
Anyway, it seems to be a good idea to write articles and get them published on e g ezinearticles and a few other such sites.
What I want to know is if it is any idea to submit variations of the articles to hundreds of other less known sites or if it is just a waste of time.
I am told that it creates backlinks. But surely Google is clever enough to figure out that these exist mainly to produce backlinks and it will only produce a slap?
All the best!
Rolf
Please let me know when you release the podcast. I'm just starting with IM and want to get up to speed as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Jose
How would you interlink various Web 2.0 properties for maximum SEO benefit? And would you need to hide behind proxies to maximise the effect whilst minimising the risks of creating what effectively could be regarded as a Web 2.0 farm? And if so, do you have some recommendadtions.
Just today I read a post from a German Blogger, saying Google has shuffled it's algorythms to make bookmarking, posting articles, etc. less effective. Apparantly this is because of the rampant use these Web 2.0 sites by marketers wanting to improve their rankings.
Have you seen or heard anything about this at all?
If this is the case, do you have any suggestions as to how to get around this?
Michael
Okay, I got a question…
Is it just me, or is Google very unstable right now in the SERPs? I'm getting thrown around like crazy, even on listings that are 'established' and that I've had for a long time…
Thanks,
Linus
Mmm, I have several doubts about Link Building. Must to be so difficult? Exist a No SPAM way to be a good Link Building?
I am ranking in the second page for the majority of my money keyword phrases in Google, but I'm non-existent in the MSN and Yahoo radar. This is for many of my websites that I do consultant work on. Are Y! and MSN becoming dumber as time goes on?
Hi Been Great following your progress with stomper can you give advice on webpages that jump around on google one time on page 1 another on page 4. I think its the validation but for a web guy who does not understand the intricasies of webdesign i just added content to a template, im unsure of what to do when the validator tells me of a problem.
Are the search engines and SERPs ever going to become obsolete in the next 10-15 years? If it is possible to be the next marketing medium to go obsolete (not non-existent but weak as in the Yellow Pages today), what could it possibly be that takes over?
you asked for questions:
I have one money site and many other sites for different niches that send traffic to the money site. I am using PayPal for buttons and I do not know how to set up a conversion tracking page because PayPal opens its own page and keeps my site in a different window — does not send a customer to another landing page after purchasing. Also, in order to optimize my pages for different content I want to have the link to the money page trackable (with a cookie??) so I can set-up affiliates. If I could do these seemingly simple things I could optimize or advertise better.
Any suggestions?
